Auxiliary verbs (be, do, have, will) help form tenses. They appear in negatives and questions.

1.3   Questions

To make a question, put the auxiliary verb before the subject.

Do you live here?   Is she working?   Have they left?

With question words, the question word comes first.

Where do you live?   What are you doing?   Why has he gone?

Subject questions don't use an auxiliary: Who lives here? (not Who does live?)
